Why Brühl?

This small town between Cologne and Bonn was the summer residence of the Electors of Cologne. In the 18th century Elector Clemens August had Augustusburg Palace and Falkenlust hunting lodge built here, with contributions from renowned architects such as François de Cuvilliés and Balthasar Neumann. Both palaces are regarded as outstanding examples of early Rococo in Germany. Together with the palace park they have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1984. After 1949 the Federal Republic used Augustusburg Palace for state receptions for decades. Brühl is also the birthplace of the painter Max Ernst.

    Baroque garden with parterre de broderie and water basins, adjoined by a landscape garden with woodland areas.
  • Walk through the park to Falkenlust
    An avenue through the palace park leads to the small hunting lodge at the far end of the grounds.
  • Falkenlust Hunting Lodge (UNESCO)
    The Elector's intimate pleasure palace for falconry, with richly decorated rooms (admission fee).
  • Max Ernst Museum Brühl of the LVR
    Museum dedicated to the surrealist artist born in Brühl, with works from all phases of his career (admission fee).
  • Brühl town centre
    A walk through the pedestrian zone and around the market square with time for a break.

No free cancellation: up to 30 days before 30 %, 29–15 days 50 %, 14–7 days 75 %, 6–1 days and no-show 100 %. Changes of date are also subject to a fee.

  • A fee is charged for changes to bookings.

  • Tours ending after 19:00 are subject to a 50% surcharge on the guiding fee.
  • Bookings can be made up to 48 hours before the start of the tour. At shorter notice, we will first check whether a guide is available and get back to you immediately.
