Side and Manavgat

Side lies on a small peninsula, and antiquity reaches right down to the water: we walk from the city gate along the colonnaded street to the theatre and on to the temples of Apollo and Athena on the shore. On the way back we stop at the Manavgat waterfall.

Full description

In antiquity Side was a wealthy port. We enter through the Hellenistic city gate, pass the nymphaeum and the Vespasian monument along the colonnaded street and reach the great theatre, whose upper tiers look out over the peninsula. At the tip of the peninsula stand the columns of the Temple of Apollo, especially beautiful in the light of the sea.

Among the ruins lies today's town with lanes, shops and cafés by the harbour. On the way back we stop at the Manavgat waterfall, where the river falls wide over rock steps.
