Pamukkale, Hierapolis and Laodicea

A big day trip inland: we walk barefoot over the travertine terraces of Pamukkale, through the necropolis and theatre of Hierapolis up to the Martyrium of Philip, and in the afternoon visit Laodicea, the church addressed in the Book of Revelation.

Full description

Pamukkale lies about 3.5 hours' drive from Antalya. Over thousands of years, calcium-rich thermal water has formed white terraces here, which you walk on barefoot. Above lies Hierapolis with one of the largest ancient necropolises, the theatre and, on the hill, the Martyrium commemorating the Apostle Philip.

A few kilometres away lies Laodicea, one of the seven churches of Revelation. The excavations show colonnaded streets, churches and theatres; here the message to the church that was neither cold nor hot becomes especially vivid. Because of the distance this tour is offered with hotel pick-up only.

• Comfortable shoes and sun protection – Ancient sites and old-town lanes have uneven paving and little shade; please bring water in summer.
