The usual jeep safaris drive in a convoy of twenty cars with water fights. We do it differently: a private 4×4 just for you, a guide who knows the tracks and villages, and a pace that leaves time to look. Along gravel tracks in the Mycale mountains we reach viewpoints over the Maeander plain, villages where hardly any tourist arrives, and finally the cool water of the Zeus Cave.

Highlights

  • Private 4×4 with driver – no convoy, no strangers
  • Forest tracks in the Mycale mountains with views over the Maeander plain and to Samos
  • Kirazlı: mountain village with cherry orchards, olive oil and village café
  • Eski Doğanbey (Domatia): abandoned Greek stone village at the edge of the national park
  • Lunch at the Karine lagoon or in the village
  • Swim in the Zeus Cave near Güzelçamlı

Full description

In the morning the 4×4 picks you up in Kuşadası. Behind the town the asphalt soon ends: on gravel tracks we climb to Kirazlı, a village between cherry orchards and olive groves, where we drink tea in the village café. Then we follow forest roads through the pine woods of the Mycale mountains to viewpoints looking across the wide Maeander plain to Lake Bafa and over to Samos.

On the south side of the mountains lies Eski Doğanbey, the old Greek Domatia: stone houses, fountains and a church abandoned after 1923, slowly finding inhabitants again today. For lunch we eat fish at the Karine lagoon or country food in the village. On the way back we stop at the Zeus Cave for a swim in cool spring water before the car takes you back to Kuşadası.

  • Group size – One 4×4 takes up to 5 guests. For larger groups we provide a second car – please send as a request.

  • Clothing – Dust is part of it: old clothes, sunglasses, a scarf for mouth and nose, swimwear.
  • Cruise guests – Please state ship and time in port; we plan the return to the ship with ample buffer.
