A half-day tour to the best-preserved Roman theatre of antiquity. We take our time with the stage wall, the acoustics and the walk up to the aqueduct that carried water more than two kilometres into the city.

Highlights

  • Theatre of Aspendos – stage wall almost completely preserved
  • Acoustic test from the top row
  • Aqueduct with 2nd-century pressure towers
  • Basilica, agora and nymphaeum on the upper city
  • Ideal as a half day from your hotel or the cruise port

Full description

Aspendos was one of the richest cities of Pamphylia, and the theatre shows it: it seated 7,000 and survives so completely that performances are still held here. We walk the vaulted passages, sit in the back row and try the acoustics.

Afterwards we climb to the upper city with its basilica, agora and nymphaeum, and continue to the aqueduct. Its two pressure towers are among the most impressive waterworks of the Roman world – and almost always empty of other visitors.
