Laodicea – a column with a most significant message

Turkey round trip:
We cannot yet show you all of Turkey in a single trip... the country is too big for that!
Our new trip, however, aims to bring you closer to a large part of the "places of the Seven Letters of Revelation" and something of "In the footsteps of the Apostle Paul".
As this is an introductory trip, we have made the price particularly favourable.
We look forward to welcoming you on this new trip.

Day 1: Flight from your home airport - Antalya. Hoş geldiniz!

Welcome at the airport by your qualified, knowledgeable and local tour guide from "PASSION" Reisen /Turkey.

Over a welcome cocktail your tour guide gives you an overview of the details of the itinerary.
We wish you God's blessing for the entire course of your journey!

Day 2: Antalya - Aphrodisias - Kuşadası

Our journey begins across the Taurus Mountains towards Kuşadası/ Izmir, where on the way we will visit the most beautiful ancient city of Anatolia - Aphrodisias (Greek Ἀφροδισιάς). Although the origins of this city can be traced back to the 3rd millennium BC, it only received its present name in the Hellenistic period in the 3rd century BC. Earlier names were Lelegonopolis, Megalopolis and Ninoe. In addition to the excavation site (Temple of Aphrodite, Tetrapylon, Odeon, Bishop's Palace, Agora, Theatre, Baths of Hadrian, Sebasteion, Stadium) you can also visit the local museum. The new section with the reliefs of the Sebasteion in particular, as well as the oldest galloping horse made of blue-grey marble, are a highlight of this trip for connoisseurs of history.

Dinner and overnight stay in/near Kuşadası (Scala Nova).

Day's distance approx. 405 km.

Tetrapylon in Aphrodisias

Day 3: Selçuk - Ephesus - Church of Mary - Basilica of St. John - Şirince

Today we drive along the bay-lined coastal road to Selçuk. Here we visit the most important excavation site on the Aegean coast - Ephesus (Greek Ἔφεσος, Hittite probably Apaša, Latin Ephesus, Acts 18;19;21;24, 19;1;2;17;26;35, 20;16;17/ 1 Cor 15;321, 1 Cor 16;8/ Eph 1;1, 1 Tim 1;3, 2 Tim 1;18, 4;12, Rev 1;11, 2;1). During our visit, the very good condition of the city offers the opportunity to immerse ourselves in life in antiquity.
We walk on the marble-paved streets and see the theatres, temples, agoras, the Library of Celsus and the Temple of Hadrian. Great importance is attached to the Church of Mary, in which the Third Ecumenical Council took place in AD 431.

Column of the Temple of Artemis, İsa Bey Mosque and Basilica of St. John, Selçuk, Turkey

We also visit the Tomb of St. John and the Basilica of St. John as well as the foundations of the Temple of Artemis - one of the Seven Wonders of the World.

Last but not least, we end the day in the idyllic village of Şirince.

Day 4: Balat (Miletus) - Didim (Didyma)

At the start of the day we treat ourselves to an extensive visit to the most famous excavation site of ancient Ionia: Miletus (Ionic: Μίλητος Miletos, Doric: Μίλατος Milatos, Aeolic: Μίλλατος Millatos, Latin: Miletus, Hittite Millawanda).
On our tour of Miletus or Miletos we see, among other things: the theatre, the bouleuterion, the North Market, a market complex, the South Market (whose representative entrance gate was taken to Berlin by Theodor Wiegand, where it is kept today in the Pergamon Museum / see Market Gate of Miletus), the nymphaeum, the Baths of Faustina, the Delphinion, the sanctuary of Apollo Delphinios (the main god of the Milesians). Here we walk just as the holy Apostle Paul once did on his visit to Miletus (Acts 20;13;15;17, 21;1, 2 Tim 4;20) and Didyma.

So we too continue to the oracle sanctuary of Apollo at Didyma. The sanctuary is connected to the Sacred Gate of the city of Miletus by a 15-kilometre-long so-called Sacred Way. At 118 m, the Sanctuary of Apollo was the third largest of the Greeks in the Archaic period and the largest sanctuary in the Hellenistic era.
The processional way itself has seven stations and, from the 7th century BC " until the end of pagan antiquity around AD 400, formed the axis of Milesian territory for more than a thousand years. It linked the two most important sanctuaries, the urban Delphinion and the extra-urban sanctuary at Didyma, as antithetical "poles".

Dinner and overnight stay in/near Kuşadası.

Day's distance approx. 239 km.

Didyma (today Didim in Turkey) was an ancient sanctuary in western Asia Minor with an important oracle of the god Apollo.

More than 1,200 tombs lie in front of the North Gate of Hierapolis. They belong to the largest ancient necropolis in Asia Minor.

If possible, we will also visit the so-called Martyrium of the Apostle Philip.

Visits to carpet, jewellery or leather businesses are expressly not part of this trip. Your time belongs to the biblical and historical sites and the content of your study tour, not to the sales rooms.

Only at the express request of the group or individual travellers do we organise such a visit separately and outside the programme. The shuttle or taxi is then paid for by the shop concerned.

Our advice: be careful with conspicuously cheap travel offers. They are often subsidised by commissions from sales visits – with compulsory shopping stops, sales pressure and often inflated prices. Never buy under time pressure, compare prices and ask for a receipt and a certificate of authenticity.
